Walking & Hiking

Explore Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty

There are numerous walking/hiking opportunities around Golspie and surrounding areas, with trails connecting Golspie to Brora as our neighbouring village. Golspie boasts areas of outstanding beauty such as the Big Burn and a multitude of forest and hill walks.

The Big Burn Gorge

The Big Burn offers a very sheltered walk with an air of mystery. The route passes over several bridges and through a secretive gorge. A waterfall completes this picturesque route and several picnic sites offer respite to the tired and hungry.

Ben Bhraggie

Nothing defines Golspie like the statue on the top of Ben Bhraggie. The climb to the top takes only about an hour from the car park in the middle of the village, or you can use the Wild Track Mountain bike car park just up the road and under the railway line.

Loch Fleet Nature Reserve

Fringed by coastal habitats and Scots pine forest and is recognised as an internationally important wildlife reserve with osprey, terns and swallows in abundance.

John o’ Groats Trail

A 147 mile coastal walking route from Inverness to John o’ Groats, traversing shorelines, cliff tops, back lanes and footpaths of the Scottish Highlands.

Golspie is located in East Sutherland, an area of natural beauty which attracts visitors from the UK and beyond. Golspie is surrounded by beautiful beaches including the North and South beaches, Embo, Dornoch, Burn Mouth, Brora, and Crakaig beach.
