The Longest Downhill Descent in the U.K.

The most northern of Scotland’s mountain bike tracks, The Highland Wildcat Trails are described as the longest singletrack descent in the UK. The trails have been designed with everyone in mind, and families of mixed ability and novice riders may find it easier to start from the Big Burn car park. For inexperienced riders keen to reach the summit of “The Ben”, there is a double track all the way from the blue trail that leads off at the crossroads in the forest.

Billed as the longest freeride descent in the UK, the new trail currently being built high up on Ben Bhraggie, Golspie is sure to attract downhill aficionados from all over the UK.

The trail which climbs up the side of Ben Bhraggie before plunging back down to Golspie again, was designed and built by Pete Laing, the man who built the first trails at Glentress.

The trails are waymarked and are sign posted to ensure that you are aware of the grade of trail chosen. Some of the more difficult features may have an easier escape route for inexperienced riders. The trails are graded as follows –

Black Trail (13.6km)

SEVERE: Difficulty Level 3 – 4. For expert mountain bike riders, used to physically demanding routes.

Red Trail (7.5km)

For proficient mountain bikers with good off- road riding skills.

Blue Trail (6.5km)

For intermediate level cyclists and mountain bikers with basic- off road riding skills.

Pict’s Path (0.9km)

For Beginners, novice and family cyclists and is suitable for most people.
