VE DAY 80 years

Remembrance and A Celebration

Golspie will be remembering the 80th VE Day on Thursday May 8th when, led by the Golspie Branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland, a commemorative flag and wreath-laying ceremony will take place in the Memorial Garden at 9am. Church bells will be rung at St Andrew’s Church at 6-30pm. A “beacon for peace” is planned to be lit on the pier, at 9pm.

On Saturday 10th May at 6:30 (for 7pm) there will be an 80th VE Day celebration party held in Fountain Road Hall, organised and funded jointly by Go Golspie Development Trust and the Golspie Branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland.

  • There will be a Minibus available to transport people to the hall from Golspie, Dornoch, Rogart and other local areas.  Please phone the Go Golspie Development Trust office for further information.  01408 634033 Monday – Friday 9am – 2pm
  • BYOB – The hall will be open from 12 noon if anyone would like to drop off their drinks for the evening.
  • Refreshments will be available – tea/coffee, sandwiches and sausage rolls etc
  • 1940s dress is optional
  • Golspie Heritage Society will be displaying an exhibition of the times

There will also be a Mini Quiz, Mini Bingo, Open Mic (bring your own instrument), Music, Singing, and Dancing.  May 10th looks like it’s going to be a great night for Golspie community. Don’t forget to bring your own bottle!
