For a small Highland village, Golspie has a good number of businesses located within its boundaries. Lindsay & Co, located on Main Street, combines hardware, gardening, local souvenirs and small gifts in a unique blend, whilst there are three small supermarkets all on Main Street to cater for most domestic needs. There are a number of good places to eat and drink (you’ll find full details on the ‘Eat & Drink’ page on this website), and much to do in the beautiful countryside hereabouts.
It’s easy to visit Dunrobin Castle and believe you’ve ‘done’ Golspie, but in reality you will have just scratched the surface: there is a world-class MTB (mountain bike) course leading to the summit of Ben Bhraggie, a superb 18-hole golf course running alongside the sea shore, beautiful walks taking in (amongst others) the breathtaking waterfall at Big Burn, wonderful RSPB bird hides overlooking tranquil Loch Fleet and the Loch Fleet Nature Reserve itself, truly a Highland idyll which leaves the hustle and bustle of modern living a world away. Getting off the A9 may just open your eyes to a world you believed had gone forever; there are no fast food joints, and indeed the whole pace of Highland life is much slower than elsewhere, but you’ll find warmth and friendship here amid the stunning scenery between the Sutherland hills and the Dornoch Firth.
Come to Golspie and stay a few days, or longer. The usual reply you’ll hear to the phrase ‘Thank you’ is ‘No Bother’ – and the people of Golspie mean what they say: making you welcome here really is ‘No Bother’. No bother at all.
